Liouville numbers, Liouville sets and Liouville fields

Following earlier work by E.Maillet 100 years ago, we introduce the definition of a Liouville set, which extends the definition of a Liouville number. We also define a Liouville field, which is a field generated by a Liouville set. Any Liouville number belongs to a Liouville set S having the power of continuum and such that the union of S with the rational number field is a Liouville field.Comment: Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, to appea

    Liouville Numbers and Schanuel's Conjecture

In this paper, using an argument of P. Erdos, K. Alniacik and E. Saias, we extend earlier results on Liouville numbers, due to P. Erdos, G.J. Rieger, W. Schwarz, K. Alniacik, E. Saias, E.B. Burger. We also produce new results of algebraic independence related with Liouville numbers and Schanuel's Conjecture, in the framework of G delta-subsets.Comment: Archiv der Math., to appea

Comment on `Painlev\'e Integrability and Multi-wave pattern for (2+1) dimensional Long wave-Short wave Resonance Interaction system'

In the paper by Sivatharani et al [1], the authors make a tall claim about the integrability of a 2 component (2+1) dimensional Long wave Short wave Resonance Interaction (2C(2+1)LSRI) equation with mixed sign which was already claimed to be non integrable and hence known not to satisfy Painlev\'e [2] property which the authors show to pass Painlev\'e test. We have categorically shown how the system does not pass Painlev\'e test and hence non-integrable reinforcing the claim made by Maruno et al [2]. The authors claim to derive the solutions of 2C(2+1)LSRI equation which ironically do not satisfy the equation. To top it all, the authors claim to have generated lumps and dromions which again defy their very own definition.Comment: 5 page

Modelling and Analysis of Real Time Power System With Cascaded Multilevel STATCOM Using Fuzzy Controller

Electric Power is a major concern that has generated more importance in electrical utilities and consumers. To assure a reliable and quality power system, all the bus are expected to maintain steady acceptable voltage before and after being subjected to any disturbance. Among the FACTs devices a static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) is analyzed to provide a reliable and feasible solution. The STATCOM has been developed using cascaded multilevel converter.  A FUZZY based controller for Cascaded Multilevel STATCOM is developed which produces improved performance. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of CMC based STATCOM  with fuzzy controller in real time power system concerning the problem of variable loading and losses. A real time substation with 20 bus are analyzed with power flow analysis with and without STATCOM. Without the connection of STATCOM, a observable changes in the system voltage, line flows and losses are in system behaviour. But this influences the quality of grid and hence the customers are affected badly, indicating the need of power flow analysis and location of STATCOM on the system to improve the voltage profile. It is demonstrated that the described model works to an excellent level in improving the substation performance

Perceived Usefulness of Banana Pseudostem Processing and Value Addition among Farmers in Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu

This study has been carried out to assess the perceived usefulness of Banana Post Production Mechanisation among farmers in the western region of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore district was selected because banana cultivating farmers are more in this region and two taluks namely Coimbatore and Mettupalayam were selected at random. From each taluk, 2-3 villages were selected on cluster basis. In each cluster, 15 respondents were selected for research intervention. Thus, in total, 60 respondents were selected for this study. Attributes of Mechanization had been employed through package of banana pseudostem processing equipment and banana rope making equipment among respondents, where the highest mean score was reported in Economic viability

Ethnomedicinal knowledge among the Malayali tribal of Chitteri hills, Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu, India

The present study was aimed to document the ethnomedicinal knowledge among the Malayali tribal of Chitteri hills Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India. Field visits were made to the Chitteri hills every month covering all seasons. Interviews with traditional healers and other knowledgeable inhabitants and farmers were conducted. The Malayali tribal people of Chitteri hills use 320 plant species for their day-to-day life, this ethnobotanical exploration revealed they were the habit of using around 216 species of medicinal plants belonging to 200 genera under 45 families. Malayali tribes use morphological characters such as bark surface, leaf colour, leaf taste and exudates, underground plant parts and ecology of species as criteria for identification of 135 species belongs to 105 genera under 46 families. The documentation of the knowledge of Malayali tribal identification of plants of Chitteri hills is to be accorded top priority in the preservation of our ancient traditional knowledge

ABSTRACTObjective: The present study was undertaken to establish the antineoplastic potential of Annona reticulata on human cancer cell lines, viz., squamouscell carcinoma 9 (SCC9), MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma), A549 (lung adenocarcinoma), and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) cells. Methods: The study was performed through MTT, cell cycle (G2M), and DNA fragmentation assays. Cells inhibited in MTT assay were subjected to cellcycle analysis and DNA fragmentation, respectively. Results: The extracts showed dose-dependent growth inhibition of SCC9, MCF-7, A549, and HCT116 cells. In contrast to HCT116 and A549 cells, which exhibited cytotoxicity at a higher concentration with IC50 value of 271.7 and 296 µg/ml, the extract treated SCC9 and MCF-7 cells exhibitedsignificant cytotoxicity at a lower concentration with IC50 value of 49.47 and 52.65 µg/ml, respectively. The treated A549 and MCF-7 cells showed cellcycle arrest up to 7.07% and 14.42%, respectively, at G2/M phase of cell cycle. DNA fragmentation was not observed in both A549 and MCF-7 cellstreated with A. reticulata extract at a concentration of 320 µg/ml.Conclusion: Encouraging preliminary results emphasize the necessity for further research on characterization of individual compounds from thisextract and advocate it as a good source of anticancer agent for certain types of cancer. Keywords: Annona reticulata, Anticancer activity, MTT, G2M and DNA fragmentation
